Our First Annual Staycation

A week ago, Ryan decided that before school started we needed to take a little staycation. We aren't ready to take a real family vacation yet, so we decided to take a little time out for ourselves around here. Ryan took of 2 days, so we made ourselves a four day adventure at home.
  • We went to this place in Glenview called Make a Messterpiece. I had wanted to check it out for quite a while, but it was a bit of a drive. We took the 4o minute ride and got to paint, do art with bubble paint, play on the slide, and finger paint. The place was nice, but will be more fun when they are a little older and want to spend more time there. We got some lunch out there too.
  • We helped the Connelly's pack up the Pod for their move. I didn't do so much moving, but I worked hard at containing the children. We enjoyed some Lou Malnati's pizza too!
  • We went to Monkey Bizness in Wheaton. It has a bounce house, slides, dress up clothes, painting, art room, little cars, blocks, computer game, and more. It also has coffee available for the parents. It's a really nice place to take the kids. It not super fancy, but it's clean, and the kids are contained and entertained. I like it.
  • The girl's got their toes done and the Uncle's got to watch a scary movie.
  • We went on our weekly Downtown Wheaton adventure and had breakfast there. We also went to the Stork's Cradle shop with the Connelly's where they had a little back to school morning. The kids got cookies, face painting, and balloons.

It was a great family "trip." Now, we start thinking out our next "real" vacation... maybe Colorado next summer?!

Make a Messterpiece. This slide was Chase's favorite part. The bubble paint. This was pretty cool, but you had to pay an extra $5 for this. (Luckily we had a coupon :) Chase's turn.

More paint! Reese's "art" was soaked with paint.

Chase kept asking this girl who worked there to play with him. He asked her to sit in this circle with her. It was pretty funny and cute.

Reese's First Day of PreSchool

That's right people, Reese has officially started four day a week pre-school! She is big time now and so excited about it. We met the teacher on Tuesday and she was very shy, but she let me know she would talk to the teacher and be good when I wasn't there. Sure enough, this morning came and she was more than thrilled to put on her dress and get ready to go. I was so happy for her because I know that she is more than ready and needs to go to school, but for one moment when I dropped her off, a wave went through me where I was tempted to cry. It's crazy just dropping her off at the door of the school. Anyway, I picked her up and she was bouncing with excitement. She loved it and can't wait to go back. We went to lunch at Portillo's after with Noah and Avery to celebrate the first day.

Daddy helped build the anticipation by taking her 1st day of school pictures before heading to work. Look at the happy girl.

Chase was so sad that he couldn't go to school with Reese. (Just one more year, Buddy.)

A Pretty Awesome Park

Let's start with a cute bumbo chair picture of Blake. He does pretty good in here. And, as I talked about in the last post, he favors one side with his head... yes, it's holding this head to his right (as you can see), so we are working on stretching the other side.
Onto the topic of this post... Jen invited us to check out this awesome park with her. It was a bit of a hike, in Huntley, but it was well worth the drive. It had a soft ground, a sandbox with toys, places where you could dance and jump on stars on the ground that produced music... leading to some dancing. Everything about the park was great. We even had a nice picnic and there were toilets there which is great for Reese who hates port-o-johns. The only downfall were the mosquitoes. Reese had about 6 on her arm and 3 on her face!

Avery on this bus. This bus actually rocked back and forth.
Noah and Reese also taking a trip to school.
Jackson and Nate getting dirty in the sand.
Reese enjoying the sand.
Erin, Ellison, and Nolan came a little later. Reese and Avery were trying to get a peek at Nolan.
Chase enjoying the swings.
Lunch... There with 9 kids, 4 moms, and a bunch of mosquitoes.

Blake and Chase Stats

Blake One Month Stats:
Height- 24 inches (90%ile)
Weight- 12lbs 3.5 ozs (95%ile)
Head- 15.5 ins

Blake is eating well and doing great. We do have one thing to work on. He is favoring one side with his head. He always wants to go to the right and lay the same way which is making his head a little flatter on one side. It's nothing to get worried about at this point, we we have to do some stretches and get him to look to his left more to stretch out his neck. Hopefully we can correct this on our own.

Chase Stats:
Height- 35.5 ins (85%ile)
Weight- 29lbs 13ozs (80%ile)
Head- 19.75 ins
Chase had a normal appointment. He is doing well and seems to be on target with his milestones. He was running around the office in his underwear and decided to take them off many times while we were in there. It didn't seem to phase the doctor- said it was normal for a 2 year old to want the center of attention... and that seems to be the phase we are in with Chase these days. Fun.

The highlight of the appointment for me as a Mother, was at the very end. The doctor handed Reese and Chase a sticker and Reese quickly said, "Thank You." The doctor then said that it was the first non-prompted "thank you" of the day. Woo hoo! Go Reese. Makes you think you are doing something right as parents. (Way to go, Reese!)

One Month Old!

Our little man Blake is no longer so little! He seems like he is growing up so fast. We go to the doctor on Monday to get his one month stats and will post that afterwards. So, what is he up to? Not much yet. He eats every 3-4 hours during the day and every 3-5 hours at night. He spits up a lot. He is staying up a lot more now and looks around a little bit. He doesn't mind tummy time and can sit in the bumbo. We have got him to smile a few times, and I think it was actually a real smile and now just a gas smile. He gets a little fussy or grunty after he eats, but mainly he is pretty chill. I can't believe he is already a month, but at the same time I feel like he has been part of our family forever.

Summer Happenings

Reese is starting pre-school next week. She will be going FOUR days a week, and in just a month, I will be back at work, so I feel the summer ending like all the teachers out there and all the parents with school aged kids. It's kind of crazy! Having three kids now, one being a little baby, has made it a little more challenging to get out in this heat, but we have been trying to live it up as much as we can. We haven't been outside as much the last few weeks, and it seems when we have, we have been attacked by mosquitoes. Poor Reese is currently covered in bites- on her face, her arms, her legs... and they are big bites. Anyway, here are a few of our latest outings.

BLACKBERRY FARM
We went to Blackberry Farm in Aurora with Beth, Abigail, and Caitlin. I had been here as a kid, but it had been years. It was quite educational, which the kids are not ready for, but they had a nice path, a train, a merry-go-round, and other activities for the kids. We all had a nice time, except for Blake who got a little fussy at the end. Luckily the man at the desk gave us the resident rates so we enjoyed the experience for only $8. Can't beat that! Unfortunately, the schools in the area went back to school, so the pony rides were no longer offered on week nights. The kids were disappointed, but got over it quickly.
The old school house. Reese wanted to stay in here.
Super cute Caitlin.

Thanks to Beth for taking them on the Merry-go-round.... over and over!

The Park
The park... any park really, is my favorite summer hot spot. Parks are open bright an early, they are free, there are so many different ones, and the kids love them.
Reese and Chase at a local park.
The Matta's
We took a trip out to see Erin, Ellison, and Nolan (who is just 6 days older than Blake). The kids loved playing together and Erin and I got to hang out. We have known each other for so long and it's fun to enjoy all these new life adventures together.
Reese and Ellison in Jonathan's fort.
Baby Nolan.
Daddy's Work
We took a trip to visit Daddy at work. We enjoyed lunch outside from his new cafeteria, but on the way we found a park. Reese was pumped because we spotted a park at a school and as we made our way around the school, we found TWO more parks!
