This and That

We have been staying pretty low key. It has been a bit of a boring time and the kids are feeling it too. As everyone would say, is it spring yet? We can't wait to get outside... we can't wait to start our Saturday trips to Wheaton... we can't wait to go for some walks and visit all the parks in town... until then, we are trying to keep things interesting and it's not always easy. There are only so many things you can do inside.

Friday we went to Monkey Joe's and out to dinner. The kids had fun getting out and so did we. Saturday was gymnastics and school. Chase didn't cry at all, so we are making progress. Reese loved gymnastics and I think we may even sign her up again. We did some relaxing, shopping, and hanging out. We kept it simple.

My Mom heard about a Kid's Expo in Schaumburg this weekend. We all checked it out with mom and the Connelly's. There were a bunch of free activities, and tons of vendors. I bought half price tickets to Donley's Wild West Town, and I am excited to go there this summer. We went there as kids so it will be interesting to see how it changed.

The highlight of the weekend was a first time visitor... DYLAN! He had his first of many visits to the Staniak's. I do have to say that he liked it here and may have loved when I held him. His parents were here too, but they are old news. :) He's so precious.

Ok... pictures...

Blake getting ready to go to the expo, sporting a Jackson jacket.

Blake is army crawling all over the place! Here he is ready to sneak into the kitchen one morning.Chase driving a train car at the expo. The petting zoo today. Daddy was nice enough to take Reese and Chase in. They both freaked out a bit. Here is Reese in tears...... and Chase.A Bounce House slide. We did a lot of this at Monkey Joe's on Friday too. There were a ton of characters roaming around. Here is the bunny from a new movie coming out. I think Chase liked her sassiness. Look at that huge brave smile. He would cling to us around the other characters! And little Dylan!Reese was very excited to hold him for the first time. She can't even believe how little he is.He's looking at me. What a cutie.

mommy- O!

Reese loves coloring. She has gotten a lot better and will color 5 pages in a sitting. I have so much art, I don't know what to do! :) She likes to sit by Daddy at his computer and work on her "schedule." She does this a couple times a day. "Mommy, give me a minute, I just have to work on my schedule." She is also working hard on her words. We only have a few so far, but she can write Reese, Staniak, Chase, Blake, Mom, Dad, and Dog. Now, the best part comes to the Mommy-O. I swear, ever since my belly button issues, my belly button takes part in everything...

Sleeping Beauty
(yes, my name even has a big belly button)
Princess Tiana
Mom (button in the middle again-a little messy)
Dad (spelled DEAB this time for some reason)
Blake (BAE-forgot some letters)
Here is a picture of Mommy. Notice my belly button- we never forget it)
Reese brought this home from school today. Getting better...
(Button is not missing)
I asked Reese to bring me home a picture of her family. She obviously got a little help with the outlines of her family. Daddy, Mommy, Reese, Chase, and Blake.
The best part is I asked what was on Daddy's face. She said he was crying, but Mommy is happy. I asked why he was crying and she said, "He was fighting with Mommy." What?? I mean, really, if we had had an argument it would be one thing, but she just made that up. I hope she wasn't telling stories at school!!

On the Move at 7 Months Old

Blake is 7 Months old today. It's hard to believe that it's been 7 months since he is born, but time keeps flying by as these darling children keep us busy and happy. Blake has a cold (which I think he picked up from Reese).... runny nose, little cough, little fever. He's a trooper but it's still no fun. It's really a bummer because we didn't get to go see Dylan this weekend because we are not bringing our sick kids to see a newborn. Ugh. Anyway, here are the highlights of our boy who is now closer to ONE!
  • Blake is officially moving. He gets up in crawling position and will scoot himself around. He will move quick to get to the computer or paper. Ryan and I were talking about how we are really going to have to keep an eye on him now and start to block the stairs soon!
  • For the first time today, he went from a crawling position to a sitting position. It's quite the accomplishment in my eyes.
  • You should see this kid in the jump-a-roo. It cracks Ryan up every time. He jumps so much and gets so excited.
  • He loves to laugh at Reese and Chase.
  • He eats well like the rest of the family. He is eating puffs now but is still working on getting them in his mouth (many end up in his lap). He eats about 3+ stage 2 foods a day and take four 7 oz bottles a day at 6, 10, 2, and 6/7. He is officially off of breastmilk. His last nursing session was Friday morning so I am currently in the drying up phase and he is strictly on Similac advanced formula. He likes it.
  • He has 6 teeth and working on the other two on the bottom (which is part of the reason for the formula)!
  • Blake is working on getting a better napping/sleeping schedule. He has spent many naps in the carseat and sleeps great in there, but he needs to spend more time in his crib or the pack and play. It's hard with Blake sharing a room with Chase right now. Chase wants to play with Blake and won't necessarily leave him alone, so he ends up in the carseat for naps or in our bed falling asleep. At this point, we are putting him in the pack and play to fall asleep on his own since he goes to sleep before the big kids (in Reese's room) and he also spends some time sleeping in the crib. I think as long as he goes to bed on a flat surface on his own, he will adjust. If you catch him at the right moment he will go to sleep pretty quietly. Most times, he will cry for 5-10 minutes and then fall asleep on his belly. He usually naps 3 times a day for around an hour each.
  • He sleeps from like 7pm-6am, but for the last week he has been waking up at 4am. So weird and so annoying. This past morning it was 5am, so we are getting better!
  • He drools a lot.
  • He almost always finishes every last drop of his bottles.
  • He is wearing size 9-12 months.
  • Blake is getting so heavy in his little carseat. I think we are going to have to move him sooner rather than later! It will be a sad day because he is happy in there when we bring him shopping.

The Super Baby Bowl

We had to watch the Superbowl and decided that we would also celebrate Dave's few days of Baby bachelorhood. We cheered on the Packers, ate some delicious nachos, played Pass the Pot (Jen and I won the most times- I ended up +$6... Go Me!), enjoyed some pink and blue cookies and "jello", had a bottle drinking contest, some tackling Papa (the kids, not the grown-ups), and a pudding race. It was a silly night, but a blast. It ended with a Packers Superbowl win. Success!

The Babychelor
Sporting a bib, Dave and Carissa finished their pudding first. CORRECTION- Jonathan informed me that he actually won this game by like 30 seconds and claimed the prize- a whopping $3. I was too busy cracking up. I was shoveling it in and he wanted me to go faster!
I don't know how Jonathan and Jen didn't win. See note above, they did win.
This was funny. They were shocked at how much they couldn't get out. The bottles had like 4 ounces and I don't think anyone really finished it.
PJ after party
Blake, Reese, Jackson, and Chase
Blake and big sister Reese
And Blake got his 6th tooth. Four on the top now and 2 on the bottom!

February = Cold

It's cold. I am over it, but the snow is still coming down and it's only supposed to get colder, so we deal. I have all the kids today and we actually had a great day. They all played so nicely together, enjoyed their lunch, and I *think* they are all sleeping. (At least they are quiet) So, in my down time, here's a bit of what's going on at the moment in our lives. This past week, the kids had a super fun time with Grandma Jill at her Valentine's day party, and we moved The Connelly's into their new home. We also had a little Super (Baby) Bowl Party (I'll expand on that in another post). Busy and fun times.

A quick shot with the gang. Everyone is looking at the camera. Pretty amazing. We even have some smiles. Next time, we just have to get someone else to take the picture so Daddy-O can be in it!
Reese has been more helpful lately. She has also thrown some interesting fake crying moments out there. It's so fake. She should get into acting. She loves to get dressed by herself and surprise us in the morning. She also has been coloring like 10 pages a day!
Blake got his third top tooth yesterday. He now has 3 on the top and two on the bottom. His gums were really swollen so I think this will make him a little happier. He has been getting two formula bottles a day (of 4) and by the end of this week, we will be nursing just one time a day. He is very distracted lately when I feel him, so we are getting ready to be done with the Mommy feedings. Here is the little man doing a plank. Reese did this when she was little too! He can get into crawling position and still just goes backwards, but he's almost there! He continues to be an easy baby. He gets picked on (hugged a lot) by his siblings, but takes it like a champ. Still working on him going down for naps in his crib without crying, but he's getting better every day.

Chase had his FIRST day of his Preschool this weekend!! This is the pathway to preschool program through the park district that Reese was in last year. It's just one day a week for an hour and a half, but it's a great place to learn to follow directions without a familiar face in charge. Anyway, it was really exciting to get him all ready to go, buy supplies and get him excited. We all went in, talked to the teacher, showed him the "cool" little potty, and left without a tear. Reese and I picked him up and he was eager to tell us about school, but then gave no details. I briefly talked to one of the teachers that said he did "ok". She said he had some moments, which of course made me nervous. I asked if he screamed or hit anyone and she said no (thank goodness). She did say he cried for Daddy a little and enjoyed sitting on her lap reading books (just like Reese did). I didn't get much more information than that, but I have to remember that he is just 2 1/2 now and this is his first real structured environment. Reese is the oldest in her class while Chase will always be the youngest, so it's a much different feel. He has a lot to learn, but I think this will be a great transition to 4 day a week preschool next year.
Here is Chase, all ready for school!

It's a Marshmallow World!

They say this may be the biggest blizzard in years... which may be the biggest blizzard of our lifetime so far... with 50+ mph winds, snow fall up to 20+ inches, and drifts over 4 feet tall... we made the most of it stuck in our house. Ryan was nice and met the neighbors out for some fun in the snow. They had so much fun! They were outside for almost an hour. I can't believe they made it that long, but they didn't want to come in. We had some hot chocolate, dinner, and warm baths. Chase didn't nap today and was asleep on the couch before 7. It was a great snow day. There is no school again tomorrow... maybe we will venture out.

Ok, so Reese has on 4T pants that are too small and Chase is wearing 12 month pink pants. It didn't matter at all what they were wearing because they were ready to go!Blake stayed inside with me. We prefer the warmth. He is getting up on all fours now, but he can only go backwards. Also, he is grinding his teeth. Ick. I snuck out for a few minutes to get some photos, but I hurried back inside.

What a nice Daddy!
Everyone needs a snow angel.
Abigail and Chase.
They look like they are coming up with some sort of sneaky plan.
Yippee!!! Reese really wanted to make a snowman, but it was the wrong kind of snow.
Love the background? They are building the homes in front of us.
The entire gang.
"Yum! This snow is tasty."
Reese and Daddy.

Baby Thommes Shower

This past Saturday was not only my one and only brother's golden (29th) birthday, but it was the baby shower for the last "first" baby in our family! Carissa and Dave are less than 3 weeks away from meeting their little one (if the baby cooperates and comes on time). We are all so excited to find out if it's a girl or a boy and to kiss and hug the little one. They are going to be great parents and we can't wait for them to join in the madness! Their shower was a bit of madness. There were around 75 people, so you could only image that their were LOTS of presents. I think they are ready now!

Here she is, Carissa is prego and happy!
Avery, one of her all star helpers.
Reese, here other side kick for opening all the gifts.
The sisters.
I am, in fact, the only one not with child! But, Blake will be just 7 months older than Carissa's. Their 3, and Blake will all be 1 at the same time!
All the girls! Will Carissa add one to the group, or will it stay just the six of us for longer?
The Dad and Mom to be!
